The TV MegaSite's Blog Post #107
I hope you all had a great holiday season! I'm always sad when it's over...
Did you get any good TV-related gifts? I got the rest of the "Babylon 5" DVD's I was missing, "Wonder Woman", "Freaks and Geeks", and "Manions of America"! Gotta love that Amazon Wish List. Also, I got my husband, among other things, a Larry David T-shirt, and our friend Barb got him "Black Christmas" by Lewis Black. Lewis Black is a hilarious comedian that is seen frequently on Comedy Central, especially "The Daily Show". We have all of his comedy concert DVD's already.
There are always so many great specials and marathons on during the holidays. I know lots of people love watching the Twilight Zone marathon, and there were many others. Or maybe you had your own little marathon at home? What they call "binge-watching".
I did a lot of catching up on TV shows from my DVR and DVD's. I caught up on many episodes of Dracula, Bones, The Neighbors, Back in the Game, and Arrow (and of course the soaps). I watched lots of DVD's that Syfy, The CW, FX and other networks sent me. I review all the new and upcoming shows, as does Sundi, on our TV Reviews Page.
Arrow is so good!! I love that he finally got a real mask and that they introduced Barry Allen. I can't wait for the new Flash series. It's great that they're going to have two superhero shows on there with the same universe/continuity. I just wish that they had been able to do that with Smallville as well. I think that eventually The CW is going to have me watching their whole line-up. That's the direction they're headed in as long as they get rid of reality crap, and whenever they get around to canceling "Hart of Dixie".
But I never wish for a show to be canceled because I know that it has many fans that will be upset when it gets canceled. I don't want to wish that kind of pain on anyone else!
Oh, I also watched the new Doctor Who show and the new Sherlock. The latter debuts on PBS January 19. It is so great!!! Best show on TV, I think. It's so hard to compare different types of TV shows. I love Justified and usually think of it as the best TV show, but I think Sherlock may have to take that title. Everyone I know who's seen it loves it (except for one curmudgeon who hates everything). The only complaint everyone has is, why do they only make a few episodes per year? That's how they make it so great, I guess.
I was thinking about "House", which I miss. Hugh Laurie is now on Twitter, so I had to tell him how much we miss "House" (I'm sure he cares, ha ha!). Of course "House" was a form of Sherlock Holmes. Imagine if House had only had 3 or 4 episodes per season, 2 hours each. It would have been perfect like Sherlock! But I'm glad we had all the episodes we had of "House", even though some were not so great toward the end. At least I can watch Sherlock and not miss House quite so much. I just wish they would get Hugh Laurie on Sherlock as a guest villain or something! That would be so cool.
One of the new sections I hope to create on our site is one for Sherlock Holmes, which would encompass not only Sherlock on PBS but also Elementary on CBS and the movies with Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes sure is popular right now!
Please do stop by our site and enjoy all that we have to offer. Every week I spend a lot of time on our news pages and our Primetime Forum.
I usually run the soap transcripts Monday through Friday, but the computer I was using for that died. Hopefully they can fix it. It uses a device called a TV Wonder to make the transcripts from the closed-captioning. I bought a different type of TV Wonder, that may or may not work with this computer I'm on now. The other one only works with Windows 98 and 2000, not XP or above. I hope this one will be a backup if need be, if I can get the software working. I'd rather not use it on this one, though, because then I can't type and run transcripts at the same time. At least not until I get my new computer, which should be later this month.
If you're a fan of The Young and the Restless, make sure to check out the new article I wrote about the latest behind-the-scenes controversy. I'm also currently reading the biography of Y&R creator Bill Bell and hope to review that soon.
Have a great week!
